Donate Tools in good condition

Tools with a Mission

We are very grateful to the many people who have donated items for our Library of Things

If you still have spare tools we are in contact with an organisation called Tools with a Mission who send tools in working condition to countries in the developing world.

You can read more about them here: https://www.twam.uk/

There’s a local representative in Peacehaven called Gerard where you can donate your tools to – just check the list for what items they accept first

Get in touch with us if you have anything you’d like to donate to them and we can put you in touch

Green Tips – Recycling Toiletries and Cosmetics

We’re delighted that Sainsburys have installed a ‘Maybelline’ recycling bin for toiletries and cosmetics. This is the same scheme which Boots in Brighton use – so you can now recycle empty tubes, compacts and other makeup packaging EXCEPT FOR:
• Glass bottles (e.g. foundation bottles and cream eyeshadow jars)
• Makeup brushes
• Aerosol containers
• Wooden eye pencils
• Nail varnish

Gardening and Curtains

March 2023

Free insulation?
You probably know that curtains provide extra insulation. If your curtains aren’t already lined, grab an old pair of curtains from a charity shop or you might pick up some free material on Freegle, Facebook ‘anything free’ pages or  the ‘Next Door’ forum

Of course if you need help with fixing the lining to your curtains, come to our Repair Cafes for help.

Plant pots
If you enjoy gardening, now’s the time to start thinking about planting your seedlings. If you want to save money and avoid buying more plastic there’s no need to buy new pots. If you have a car and are visiting the Newhaven Household Waste Recycling Site on New Road do visit the shop there where there are always loads of second hand ones at which cost pennies at the shop.

You can also use old yogurt pots, fruit trays, cut the top part of drinks cartons (tetrapacks) and use the bottom part and so on, as well as asking around for people’s spares.

And if you have a surplus of pots feel free to bring them to our ‘Bring-and-Take’ table at our regular stalls or Repair Cafes.
