Food Waste

Just a reminder that there are loads of great schemes in the area to help us reduce food waste.

Havens Community Hub has leftover food which can be collected from outside their premises in Denton at 2A Thompson Road BN9 0RS, saving tonnes of food from being sent to landfill or incineration. For more info visit: https://www.havenscommunityhub.co.uk/foodcoop

Oddbox delivers ‘wonky’ fruit and vegetables to your door, often food which would have been rejected by retailers. The cost is often lower than other fruit and veg boxes. Visit: https://www.oddbox.co.uk/

And Approved Food is an online food retailer which specialises in food which is past its best before but not its ‘use by’ date, selling it at a reduced price. For more information visit:

Local people helping you to save money and reduce waste

May 2024

We had a great time in May at Seaford Sustainability Fair meeting amazing people who can help you to save money AND the planet.

For example, Darren from ‘Pairups‘ offers kits to help you repair your trainers rather than throw them away when you get a hole: https://www.pairups.co.uk/store/

And ‘Cheeky Wipes‘ – which is based in Newhaven, offering loads of great washable reusable products including nappies, wipes, sanitary products and much more: https://www.cheekywipes.com/

Blister Pack Recycling at Boots

March 2024

Newhaven Green Centre has collected an estimated 5,000 blister packs – this is a full box ready for shipment to Terracycle for recycling.

The really good news is that Newhaven’s very own local Boots store is now collecting blister packs so you can take them straight to them from now on. Please make sure they’re clean and empty. Any medication or inhalers or other medical stuff should be returned to the pharmacy counter.
